  VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY - BRAILLE TRANSCRIBER - ON SITE

Type/Age: Individuals / 21 years or older.
Description: On-Site Braille Transcribers assist in the VSVH office by transcribing short-term requests, such as newsletters, children's books, menus, and playbills.
Requirements: Computer literacy, ability to attend a weekly daytime training session. 8-10 hours per week for study and completion of homework assignments. Ability to read standard size print. A high school diploma or equivalent. Strong problem solving skills, good knowledge of English, and a "perfectionist" attitude. Certification by the Library of Congress is required after training is completed.
Location: On-site.
Time Commitment: 5 hours per week during VSVH office hours. This is an on going and long-term commitment.
Training: 2 1/2 hours per week - September to April, training location and time may vary. A second 8-month session may be offered from February to September.
Benefits: Site is also on major bus lines and is handicapped accessible.
